Late morning, San Francisco

Sometimes I wonder whether I even want to travel, because so much of what I want from Other Places boils down to this: that they remind me of this place.

It makes me understand how people can get married.

I have given pieces of my heart to Berlin, Reykjavík, and Sydney, and I know there are many cities I haven't seen that are wonderful in their own ways, but this one is my center. Really, what I read once about San Franciscans is true — we call it "the city" because for us, there is no other city. No matter how well-traveled we may be.

I loved Seattle because it reminded me of San Fran.

Exactly what I am feeling at the moment... so much of what I want from Other Places boils down to this: that they remind me of home.

Oh I loved San Francisco. Cannot wait to get back there :-)

Kait - I've heard that comparison from others; I'll add your confirmation to my mental catalog. (All I've seen of Seattle was the airport and a whirlwind day of college-touring, so sadly I can't comment.)

Maria - And I know you know.

Noël - Mm. I want to hear more about this sometime -- which parts of home you seek most ardently, and what you have found where...

Kirstie - Aw. :) Well, I hope it's not much longer!

what do you love about san francisco? (maybe you should do a post!)

odessa 7/11/2012 10:03 PM

ah, that is such a lovely view.
and yes to everything that you said.

Holly 7/11/2012 10:19 PM

sui - the mild climate, the ocean, how much of the view is sky and sea, its walkability, its history, the hills, Marin and Sonoma nearby, the eucalyptus trees, all the Irish dance schools and hippie grcoery stores...things like that

odessa - look carefully and you can even see Point Reyes (it was clearer irl...).

this is what i learned in my 2.5 months of travel. nothing quite feels the same.

Holly 7/14/2012 2:15 AM

zoe - mm. your eyes are changed? they do that...

Jenica 7/14/2012 8:50 PM

I'd kind of love to live in a place like that...I've heard the same about Marseille. I wonder what it is about some places?

Holly 7/15/2012 11:34 PM

Jenica - One of my German teachers tried to explain to us this concept under which category San Francisco apparently fit -- the "dream city." I always think of that, Traumstadt.
